How Data Entry Practice Works

A test tells you where you stand today. Practice is how you improve, so this page is set up for repetition on the formats you will actually type at work.

Drill one format at a time

Choose a single format such as invoices, SKU codes or bank routing numbers and repeat it until the pattern feels automatic. Switch to Mixed once each format is comfortable.

Weak digits come up more often

Every session records hits and errors per key. The next session serves the digits you miss most up to 5 times more often, then eases off as your accuracy improves.

See where your errors are

After each session a heatmap shows your accuracy on every key. Your profile page keeps your history and progress across sessions.

What Can You Practise?

Finance and accounts

INV-48392 · 4382.17 · 021000021

Invoices, amounts with decimals, tax IDs, payroll and bookkeeping references, and bank routing numbers. Mostly numeric, so numpad technique pays off here.

Stock, orders and logistics

SKU-483829 · PO-2024-00482 · MTR-48291

SKU codes, purchase orders, consignment numbers and meter readings: letter prefixes followed by long digit runs, the pattern warehouse and procurement roles type all day.

Records and customer data

(415) 555-0182 · MRN-4837291 · POL-2024-001234

Phone numbers, patient record numbers, policy numbers, legal matter references and admin codes. Mixed formats with dashes and brackets that punish careless typing.

A Simple Data Entry Practice Plan for Beginners

1Start with 2-minute sessions in one format

Short, focused sessions build accuracy faster than long ones. Pick the format closest to the job you want and stay with it for the first few days.

2Hold 98% accuracy before pushing speed

If your accuracy drops below 95%, slow down. Employers count errors, and speed built on mistakes only locks them in.

3Add Mixed mode in week two

Real work switches between formats. Once single formats feel easy, practise Mixed so you get used to changing patterns mid-session.

4Finish with a timed test

When your practice scores level out, take the data entry typing test to get a KPH and EPM score you can quote on an application.
