QWERTZ Layout

German Keyboard Practice

Build muscle memory for the German QWERTZ keyboard layout. The most significant difference from QWERTY is the Y and Z key swap - German words use Z frequently (Zeit, zwischen, zeigen), making this an important layout to master.

What is QWERTZ?

QWERTZ is the standard keyboard layout used in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and much of Central Europe. The defining difference from QWERTY is the swap of Y and Z keys - Z replaces Y in the bottom-left position.

Since German uses Z far more frequently than Y (Zeit, zwischen, zeigen, zusammen), this layout is optimised for German text input. The drill word pool is heavy on Z-containing words to help you adapt.
